It feels like a lifetime ago that I began a photography business. I started out really small, I did some photos for my sisters prom and posted them on facebook. Before I knew it I had a whole slew of people asking me to book sessions with them. I loved photography, I learned fast and I LOVED doing it!
My life looked very different back then!
Stephen and myself had been married for about ten years. Our children were little, Sawyer wasn't
even born yet. We lived in our hometown and we were close to family. I had never lived anywhere else and was building clientel with people I had known most of my life.
I took photos of kids of my friends...
And of course my own beautiful babies!
Prom photos of my sister and her friends...
Engagement photos, especially this one- a photo session at the local County Fair was SO much fun!
Weddings quickly became my favorite....Then at this particular wedding...
The officiant was called last minute to replace someone. My husband also was available last minute to go with me to help. That night they began to talk, and that next morning we went to church for the first time as a family...
That was the church that two years later my husband would stand in front of and announce his call to preach. The church that he began serving as a Youth pastor, and the church that ordained him in 2014.
It seems like a life time ago.
In 2012, I was convicted to delete my facebook account, which included my photography page. As I imagined it would, that really slowed down business. It seemed like without being on social media, I was all but forgotten, but that was okay. It gave me time to focus on my children. In 2013 our youngest son was born, and at that time I was able to just be a Mommy.
When we moved to my husbands Bible College in 2016, our lives looked very different. We had another child. We were living a couple of ours away from home, and I didn't know anyone, much less did I have childcare.
In 2017 he was called to his first Senior Pastorate, and we moved 7 hours away from our hometown. I stepped back from photography.
In 2019 I did take the time to photograph a wedding for my sisters friend
I had a lot of fun, but I was so out of practice that it didn't come as easily or natural as it did at one point. That was a bit discouraging, and I didn't book anymore appointments for years.
Recently I've been doing some photo work for my daughter and her friends who
ride for the same stable. It's interesting to get back into something that I haven't done in years, but I've had fun learning! I'm working on updating my website, so when I found all of those photos, it was like walking down memory lane. It was a different season of life for me, and I may never fully return to it.
But- you never know!
I'll leave you with my most reposted maternity photo from my Pinterest board. :) The firefighters wife.
